Kathleen A. Bethel, Ed.D

is an author, CEO, and educator…

Her diverse professional experience is the inspiration for her writing. She served:

  • ten years as the CEO of a science and engineering foundation (SARSEF),

  • thirty-three years as an elementary school principal and educator, and,

  • ten years as an administrator at the University of Arizona’s College of Engineering.

Her publications include over thirty newspaper “Specials”, guest opinions, OP-EDs, poetry, memoirs, science and engineering website content, and education materials.

She may be best known for the tree in her front yard that gathers over 30,000 wishes each winter.

Currently, Kathleen is working on her debut book, The Wishing Tree

Author Bio

The author has a diverse range of professional experience as an award-winning businesswoman.

As a Writer: Kathleen was selected as a Fellow in the national project, “Tucson Public Voices: The OP-ED Project.” Over thirty “Specials” were published in the Arizona Daily Star and Buffalo News. Her poetry was most recently published in “Oberon” (2024). She is currently working on her first book, under contract with Harper One.

As a CEO, Fundraiser, and Speechwriter: The author was as the CEO of SARSEF, a science foundation where she was solely responsible for increasing the organization’s annual income to over a million dollars annually.  She was awarded the “Top Nonprofit CEO of the Year” by “Tucson Business” and “Woman of Influence” as well as the national Peter Drucker Institute’s award of “Top Ten Non-profit Leadership.”

In Leadership: As the CEO of the science foundation, Kathleen’s ability to form valuable partnerships with major corporations such as Raytheon, Roche, Verizon, Honeywell, IBM, Intel, Arizona Public Service, Tucson Electric Power, COX, State Farm, Freeport McMoRan, and thirty other corporations and foundations.

As an Educator,Consultant, and Communicator: The author previously served as an elementary school principal and educator for over thirty years and as an administrator at the University of Arizona’s College of Engineering. The author earned a doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas Tech University. When asked why her work in education matters in her role as a writer, she stated that she understands people, and their struggles.

The author reminds us, hope is always on the horizon.
